What religion is Curtis Jones?

Curtis Jones is an English professional footballer who has not publicly spoken about his religious beliefs, though he is widely reported to have been raised in a Christian household.

Curtis Jones plays as a midfielder for Serie A club Inter Milan and the England national team. Previously, he played for the club Liverpool, helping the team win its first Premier League title in 30 years. Among his other achievements, Jones won the Premier League again in 2025 and won the Carabao Cup and FA Cup in 2022.

Early life

Curtis Julian Jones was born on 30 January 2001 in Liverpool, Merseyside, and grew up in the Toxteth district. He is of Nigerian descent through his paternal grandmother, while his mother, Sandra Jones, is English. Jones was educated at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Primary School and later moved to Rainhill High School, which is an official school partner of Liverpool FC.

He began his career with local grassroots club Mossley Hill FC before joining Liverpool’s youth academy at nine years old. He made his under-18 team debut on December 3, 2016, when he was just 15 years old, helping the team secure a 2–1 victory over Middlesbrough. He signed his first professional contract with Liverpool on 1 February 2018 at age 17.

Liverpool

Liverpool handed Jones his first-team debut on January 7, 2019, in an FA Cup match against Wolverhampton Wanderers, followed by his Premier League debut as a substitute against Bournemouth later that year. On 5 January 2020, aged 18 years and 340 days, he scored a curling 20-yard winning goal in a 1–0 FA Cup victory over rivals Everton, becoming the youngest player to score in a Merseyside derby since Robbie Fowler in 1994. He helped the club win the 2019–20 Premier League title and won the academy’s Player of the Season award that same year. In November 2022, he signed a long-term contract extension running until June 2027.

Jones continued to score crucial goals for the club, including the winner in a 1–0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur on April 30, 2023. He played his 150th match for Liverpool against Newcastle United in December 2024. That same month, he marked his 100th Premier League match by scoring the winning goal against Leicester City.

During the 2024–25 season, he played 46 matches and started 27 times to help Liverpool win another Premier League title. Despite increased squad competition the following year, Jones recorded a career-high 49 appearances, including 28 starts, during the 2025–26 campaign. He capped off his strong year by setting up a goal for Andrew Robertson in a 2–0 win over Crystal Palace on April 25, 2026. Across his 16 years at his boyhood club, Jones played 228 senior matches, scored 22 goals, and won six major trophies.

Inter Milan

On 21 August 2026, Inter Milan agreed a deal to sign Jones from Liverpool on a transfer package in the region of €30 million made up of an initial fee plus add-ons and a 10 percent sell-on clause for Liverpool. He signed a five-year contract through to 2031. His move made him the third English international to join Inter that summer, following John Stones and Djed Spence.

International career

Curtis Jones played for England’s youth teams at every level from the under-16s up to the under-21 squad. He played a key role for the under-21 side that won the European Championship title in 2023.

Following a strong Premier League season with Liverpool, manager Gareth Southgate handed Jones his very first senior England call-up in May 2024. He made the preliminary training squad ahead of that summer’s European Championship. He then made his official senior international debut a few months later in November 2024 and scored a brilliant goal on his very first appearance for the national team.
