What religion is Morgan Rogers?
Morgan Rogers is an English professional footballer who has not publicly discussed his personal religious beliefs. He keeps his private life and spiritual views entirely out of the public eye.
Morgan Rogers plays the positions of attacking midfielder and winger for Chelsea of the Premier League football league as well as for the England national team. He began his senior career with the English club West Bromwich Albion during the 2018–19 season. When he signed with Chelsea in July 2026, Rogers entered into a seven-year contract. His previous contract extension with Aston Villa ran until 2031, and Chelsea surpassed his valuation by paying a British-record £117 million.
Across his career, Rogers won a UEFA Europa League title with Aston Villa and was named both the PFA Men’s Young Player of the Year and the UEFA Europa League Player of the Season.
Early life
Morgan Elliot Rogers was born on July 26, 2002, in Halesowen, West Midlands. Local scouts spotted his talent early, and he joined the West Bromwich Albion academy at just seven years old. During his childhood, he formed a close friendship with fellow Midlands prospect Jude Bellingham. The two future stars grew up just five miles apart and regularly played both with and against each other in local youth leagues.
Rogers made his professional debut for West Brom on February 6, 2019, coming on as a late substitute in an FA Cup match against Brighton at age 16. Later that season, he delivered a brilliant performance against Manchester City in the FA Youth Cup semi-finals. City was so impressed by the display that they signed the teenager in July 2019, securing him on a four-year contract for an initial £4 million fee.
Club career
Rogers did not break into Manchester City’s first team but instead developed through the club’s under-21 squad. He made 25 appearances over two seasons, contributing six goals and four assists. To gain vital senior experience, he spent the next three years out on loan. His first spell began at League One side Lincoln City in January 2021. There, a brilliant run of three goals in seven games won him the EFL Young Player of the Month award for March. He followed this with Championship loan stints at Bournemouth for the 2021–22 season and Blackpool for the 2022–23 campaign.
Middlesbrough signed Rogers permanently from Manchester City in July 2023 for an undisclosed fee. The move paid off immediately, as he exploded into life during the first half of the 2023–24 Championship season by racking up seven goals and eight assists. This stellar form made him one of the most sought-after young talents in the country, prompting Premier League side Aston Villa to swoop in and sign him just before the January transfer window closed.
Aston Villa
Aston Villa finalized a deadline-day move for Rogers on February 1, 2024, paying an initial £8 million fee plus a further £7m in possible add-ons. He made his Villa debut in a 5-0 win at Sheffield United and scored his first goal for the club against Brentford that April. His contributions helped Villa secure an impressive fourth-place finish to seal Champions League qualification.
In the 2024–25 season, Rogers made 54 appearances across all competitions, producing 14 goals and 16 assists. This breakout year included a memorable Champions League hat-trick against Celtic and a crucial goal in a tight quarter-final loss to eventual champions Paris Saint-Germain. These performances won him Villa’s Young Player of the Season award before he picked up the prestigious PFA Young Player of the Year trophy in August 2025.
Rogers maintained this elite momentum throughout the 2025–26 season. He delivered 14 goals and 12 assists to power Aston Villa all the way to a historic UEFA Europa League title, a tournament run that also earned him the Europa League Player of the Season award. He finished the 2025–26 Premier League with more shots on goal than any other English player and more shots on target than any other midfielder.

Chelsea
Following England’s run to the 2026 World Cup semi-finals, where Rogers started against Argentina and set up Anthony Gordon‘s goal, Chelsea agreed to sign him from Villa. The reported fee was £117 million, and the deal was confirmed as a British transfer record, surpassing the £116 million Manchester City had paid for Elliot Anderson earlier that same summer and Chelsea’s own club-record fee, surpassing the £115 million paid for Moisés Caicedo in 2023.
Arsenal had also pursued the signing but were unwilling to match Villa’s valuation. The transfer, confirmed in July 2026, reunited Rogers with former Manchester City academy teammate Cole Palmer at Stamford Bridge under new manager Xabi Alonso, and he signed a six-year contract with the option of a further year.
International career
Rogers played for England at every youth level from the under-15s up to the under-21s. He earned his first senior call-up in November 2024. He made his debut as a substitute in a 3-0 win against Greece. A few days later, he came off the bench again as Lee Carsley’s team beat the Republic of Ireland 5-0 to earn promotion in the Nations League. Just a week after his international debut, Rogers signed a new long-term contract with Aston Villa, keeping him at the club until 2030.
When Thomas Tuchel took over as England manager, Rogers kept his place in the team and made the squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. He even started in the semi-final match against Argentina before England suffered a tough defeat.
Personal life
Rogers has spoken about his lifelong friendship with Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham, referring to him as a “little big brother” figure after making his first Wembley appearance for England, while Bellingham has referred to Rogers as “brother” in messages posted after his international debut.
