What religion is Jesse Bisiwu?
Jesse Bisiwu is a Belgian professional footballer who is a Christian. Bisiwu publicly expressed his faith after scoring two goals in a friendly match against Basel in August 2026. Following the game, he posted a photo of his goal celebration on Instagram with a simple message that read, “Thank you Jesus.”
Jesse Bisiwu plays as a winger for La Liga club Barcelona. He started his career at Lovaina and, in 2020, moved to Club Brugge before later joining Barcelona in July 2026 at age 18. On August 16, Bisiwu came off the bench to score twice on his second unofficial debut for Barcelona in a pre-season match against Basel.
Early life
Jesse Eugen K. Bisiwu was born on January 22, 2008, in Belgium, to parents of Ghanaian origin. He began his youth development with Oud-Heverlee Leuven before entering the youth academy of Club Brugge in 2020 at age 12.
Club Brugge
At age 14, Bisiwu was permitted to train and feature in a friendly match with the Club Brugge senior first team during the winter break for the 2022 FIFA World Cup. He signed his first professional contract with the club at age 15, becoming one of the youngest players to sign a professional contract in Belgian football history. He made his official debut for Club NXT, the club’s reserve side, in the Belgian second division that same year.
During the 2024–25 campaign, he scored a spectacular solo goal against Beveren after running almost the entire length of the pitch with the ball and later scored a dramatic injury-time winner in April 2025 to help his side come from behind and beat RFC Liège 2–1. Bisiwu signed a contract extension with Club Brugge during the same season. Across his tenure with Club NXT, he scored 2 goals in 34 Challenger Pro League appearances. He also made 14 appearances and scored three goals in the UEFA Youth League before taking his game to the next level.
Barcelona
In July 2026, Barcelona reached an agreement to sign Bisiwu from Club Brugge for a reported fee of €8.5 million. He signed a five-year contract that runs until June 30, 2031. As a key part of the agreement, Club Brugge kept a 20 percent sell-on clause to receive a share of the profit from any future transfer.
He became Barcelona’s third attacking signing of the summer transfer window, joining after Anthony Gordon and Karim Adeyemi. He immediately joined manager Hansi Flick’s first-team squad for preseason training right after the move. However, the club’s official plan is for him to play matches regularly for the reserve team, Barça Atlètic. He will do this while continuing to train alongside the senior squad to help him adapt to Spanish football.
International career
At the 2025 UEFA European Under-17 Championship, Bisiwu was named to the Team of the Tournament after helping Belgium reach the semi-finals. Prior to his transfer to Barcelona in August 2026, he had not received a cap for the senior Belgium national team.
