What religion is Kobbie Mainoo?
Kobbie Mainoo is an English professional footballer who is a Christian with a Catholic upbringing. While Mainoo has not explicitly detailed his personal religious beliefs in public interviews, reports frequently attribute his faith to his Christian background and Ghanaian heritage.
Some fans online mistakenly speculated that Mainoo might be Muslim following Manchester United’s 2024 FA Cup final celebration. After the match, Mainoo immediately pulled his teammate, Amad Diallo, away from a spraying champagne bottle. Mainoo did this entirely out of respect and awareness for Diallo’s Islamic faith, which prohibits the consumption of alcohol, rather than as a reflection of his own religious practice.
Kobbie Mainoo plays as a midfielder for the Premier League club Manchester United and for the England national team and is considered by many one of the brightest young midfield talents in the world. Among his career accomplishments, he won an FA Cup and an EFL Cup with Manchester United and was named the Jimmy Murphy Young Player of the Year in 2023.
Contracts, salary & career earnings
Kobbie Mainoo’s career earnings changed dramatically after his new deal with Manchester United. He signed a long-term contract with Manchester United in April 2026 that runs through June 2031. The contract is worth approximately £35–52 million in total, depending on bonuses and performance-related incentives. Under the new agreement, Mainoo will earn a base salary of £150,000 per week and £7.8 million per year before bonuses. With performance incentives included, his annual earnings could exceed £10 million.
The contract represents a significant increase from his previous deal, under which he reportedly earned around £20,000–£25,000 per week after progressing from Manchester United’s academy into the first team.
Early life
Kobbie Mainoo was born on April 19, 2005, in Stockport, England, to parents of Ghanaian descent. He grew up in Cheadle Hulme with his older brother, Jordan Mainoo-Hames, who later became famous as a contestant on the reality show Love Island.
Mainoo started playing football with local youth club Cheadle & Gatley. He then moved to Failsworth Dynamos, where he often played as a forward. When he was just six years old, Manchester United scouts spotted his talent. He officially joined the club’s academy a few years later. Mainoo went to Ashton-on-Mersey School, which works very closely with Manchester United to help educate their young academy players.

Career
Mainoo signed his first professional contract with Manchester United in May 2022. He helped the under-18 team win the FA Youth Cup that same year. His great form earned him a spot training with the first team and later made his official senior debut on January 10, 2023, in a 3–0 cup win against Charlton Athletic.
Mainoo became a regular first-team player during the 2023–24 season. Despite a bad injury in preseason, he recovered to become one of the team’s most important midfielders. He scored famous winning goals against Wolves and Liverpool. He finished the brilliant year by scoring in the FA Cup final win over Manchester City, where he won the Man of the Match award. He was also nominated for the Premier League Young Player of the Season award alongside Erling Haaland and Alexander Isak. In April 2026, Mainoo signed a new long-term contract to stay at Old Trafford until 2031. By this time, he had played nearly 100 matches for the club and became a true leader for the team’s future.
On the international stage, Mainoo played for England’s youth teams before making his senior debut against Brazil in March 2024. He won the Man of the Match award in his very first start against Belgium just days later. His rapid rise earned him a place at UEFA Euro 2024, where he became a regular starter and helped England reach the final.
On 21 May 2026, Mainoo was named in England’s 26-man squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. However, he was the only outfield player in the squad who got zero minutes on the pitch during the tournament.
