What religion is Senne Lammens?
Senne Lammens is a Belgian professional footballer who was raised in a devout Roman Catholic household. He grew up in the East Flanders region of Belgium, where he attended local Catholic schools and completed his Catholic confirmation rite during his early teenage years. While his religious upbringing is well-documented through his family background, Lammens generally keeps his current personal faith private and does not frequently speak about it in public.
Senne Lammens serves as the number one goalkeeper for Premier League club Manchester United. After spending time with Club Brugge and Royal Antwerp, in September 2025, he joined Manchester United for a fee of €21 million plus add-ons. He was officially handed the iconic number 1 shirt for the 2026/27 season. Lammens also plays for the Belgium national team. He recently went to the 2026 FIFA World Cup as a backup goalkeeper behind starter Thibaut Courtois. Among his career achievements, he won two Belgian Pro League titles and was named the Premier League Transfer of the Season after a sensational first campaign in the Premier League.
Early life
Senne Lammens was born on July 7, 2002, in Zottegem, Belgium. He joined the youth academy of KRC Bambrugge in 2007. He then moved to Dender’s youth academy in 2010 to continue his development. On July 1, 2014, he made a big step up by joining the youth system at Club Brugge, which is one of the top clubs in Belgium.
Club Brugge
Lammens progressed through Club Brugge’s youth ranks quickly. The club selected him for the senior matchday squad in a Champions League game against Atlético Madrid on October 3, 2018, when he was just 16 years old. On December 11, 2019, he scored a dramatic late header for the under-19 team to secure a 2–2 draw against Real Madrid. This vital goal sent the youth team into the next round of the tournament. During the 2020–21 season, he played for the club’s reserve team in the Belgian second division.
On July 17, 2021, Lammens made his official senior debut for Club Brugge in the Belgian Super Cup final. He helped the team win the trophy in a 3–2 victory over Genk. Lammens started again on the opening day of the league season against Eupen and later played in a 3–0 cup win over Deinze. In total, Lammens played four senior matches for the first team. He mostly served as the main backup behind Mignolet. During his time with the club, he won two Belgian Pro League titles and a Belgian Super Cup.
Royal Antwerp
Royal Antwerp signed Lammens on a four-year contract in the summer of 2023 when he was 20 years old. In November 2023, he made his official debut for the club in a 4–1 cup victory over Lierse and subsequently won the Belgian Super Cup with the club that same year. During his first season, he served mainly as a backup goalkeeper behind Jean Butez before eventually winning the starting spot.
Lammens enjoyed a massive breakout year during the 2024–25 season. He played 44 matches in all competitions and kept 10 clean sheets. Data showed he finished the year with the most clean sheets in the Belgian league. He played 30 league games, kept seven clean sheets, and made a league-high 173 saves. This incredible run included saving four penalties, which was the highest number of penalty saves across Europe’s top leagues. In total, he played 64 matches for Royal Antwerp before his big move to England.

Manchester United
On 1 September 2025, Manchester United agreed to a deal to sign Lammens from Royal Antwerp on transfer deadline day. The BBC reported the transfer fee at an initial €21 million plus performance bonuses. He signed a five-year contract that runs until June 2030. Lammens initially took the number 31 shirt before later upgrading to the number 1 jersey. This transfer ended United’s earlier interest in Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez. It came as the club wanted to fix a series of goalkeeping mistakes from André Onana and Altay Bayindir. Onana later left the club to join Turkish side Trabzonspor.
Lammens soon won the starting spot and became United’s official number one during the 2025–26 season. He made 32 Premier League appearances for Manchester United, conceded 39 goals, kept 8 clean sheets, and was awarded the Premier League Best Transfer Award.
In August 2026, Manchester United announced that Lammens would wear the No. 1 shirt for the club for the upcoming 2026/27 season.
International career
Senne Lammens played for Belgium’s youth teams at every level from the under-15s up to the under-21 squad. He played 28 matches across those youth teams. In March 2025, Lammens was called up to the Belgium national football team for the first time.
He made his official senior international debut a few months later on November 18, 2025. He played in the final round of the European qualifiers, making a vital save to help Belgium book their place at the tournament. On May 15, 2026, Lammens was named to the Belgium national football team’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where he traveled as a backup goalkeeper.
On July 11, Lammens made his official FIFA World Cup debut for Belgium when he entered the 71st minute of their quarter-final match against Spain, but he fumbled a save in the 88th minute, and Belgium ultimately lost 1-2 to Spain.
