What religion is Leandro Trossard?
Leandro Trossard is a professional Belgian footballer who is widely reported to be a Christian, with specific online sports tracking sources classifying his affiliation as Catholic. However, Trossard is generally very private about his personal life. Unlike some of his former teammates who openly discuss their faith, Trossard has not publicly detailed his religious beliefs or spoken extensively about his faith in interviews.
Leandro Trossard plays as a forward or left winger for the Süper Lig club Beşiktaş and the Belgium national team. Previously, he played for the clubs Genk, Brighton & Hove Albion, and Arsenal, helping the latter win the Premier League. He joined Beşiktaş in 2026 for an initial fee of £15.4 million.
Early life
Leandro Trossard was born on 4 December 1994 in Maasmechelen, Limburg, Belgium. He was born to Belgian parents, Peter Trossard and Linda Scheepers, and he has one younger sister.
Club career
Trossard joined Genk’s youth academy in 2010 from Bocholter VV and progressed to the senior side in 2012. Rather than keep him in the first team, the club sent him out on a string of loans to build up his strength and experience. He spent time at Lommel United, Westerlo, and OH Leuven. During his second loan spell with Lommel in the second division, he finished as the league’s top scorer with 16 goals in 33 games. Trossard returned to Genk permanently for the 2016–17 season. He spent the next three years earning a regular spot in the first team, scoring 27 goals in 83 league matches overall. His best individual year came during the 2018–19 season when he contributed 23 goal involvements and helped Genk win the Belgian First Division A title, marking the club’s first league championship since 2011.
Brighton signed Trossard from Genk in June 2019 on a four-year contract. The deal was reportedly worth £15 million. Over three and a half seasons in England, he grew into one of the league’s most effective attacking players. He finished his Brighton career with 25 goals and 15 assists in 121 matches across all competitions. His relationship with the club deteriorated in January 2023 after manager Roberto De Zerbi said he would be dropped for leaving a training session without permission.
Arsenal
On 20 January 2023, Arsenal confirmed the signing of Trossard on a long-term contract for £21 million plus £5 million in add-ons. He made his official debut two days later as a substitute in a 3–2 win over Manchester United. Trossard came off the bench to score his first Arsenal goal on February 11 against Brentford. On March 12, 2023, he set up all three goals in the first half of a 3–0 away win at Fulham. This incredible game made him the first player in Premier League history to record a first-half assist hat-trick away from home.
Trossard later scored a crucial late equalizer in the 2023 FA Community Shield against Erling Haaland‘s Manchester City, which Arsenal went on to win on penalties. He scored his first Champions League goal for the club during a 4–0 win over PSV Eindhoven that September. On March 12, 2024, he scored the only goal in a 1–0 second-leg win over Porto in the Champions League round of 16. His vital strike sent the tie to a penalty shootout, which Arsenal won 4–2 to end the club’s run of seven straight last-16 exits.
In the summer of 2025, Trossard signed a new contract with Arsenal. He carried his great form right into that season and subsequently made an assist in a 3–0 win over Nottingham Forest and scored in a 2–0 Champions League win against Athletic Bilbao. He capped off his brilliant run by scoring and providing an assist for Eberechi Eze’s hat-trick goal in a 4–1 North London derby victory against rivals Tottenham on November 23, 2025. With Arsenal, Trossard won the 2025–26 Premier League title before departing the club in July 2026 to join Turkish side Beşiktaş.
Beşiktaş
On 14 July 2026, Trossard completed a permanent transfer from Arsenal to Turkish Süper Lig club Beşiktaş. Trossard departs the Premier League champions in a deal worth £17 million, broken up into an initial £15.3m plus £1.7m in add-ons. He signed a three-year contract that includes an option for an additional 12 months, with wages reportedly reaching up to €9m per season.
International career
Trossard played for Belgium’s youth teams at every level from the under-16s up to the under-21 squad. He made his official debut for the senior Belgian national team in September 2020 during a UEFA Nations League match against Denmark. A few months later, he scored his first two international goals during an 8–0 qualifying win over Belarus. Trossard made the final squad for UEFA Euro 2020 and played in a group-stage win against Finland before Italy knocked Belgium out in the quarter-finals.
He also featured in the 2021 Nations League Finals, where Belgium suffered losses to France and Italy. In 2022, Trossard continued his good international scoring form and scored in a friendly win against Burkina Faso and also netted twice in a 6–1 win over Poland before making the squad for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Belgium safely qualified for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. By August 2026, Trossard had reached 57 appearances and 14 goals for his country. At the main tournament, he helped Belgium beat co-hosts the United States 4–1 in the round of 16. However, their World Cup journey ended in the quarter-finals with a loss to eventual champions Spain.
