Early life
Pedro González López, known as Pedri, was born on 25 November 2002 in Bajamar, Tenerife, Canary Islands, and his parents are Fernando González and María Rosario López. His father, Fernando, once played as a goalkeeper in his younger days and came close to competing at a higher regional level before taking over the family’s restaurant. Pedri has one sibling, an older brother named Fernan.
Pedri played for CF Tegueste and then spent three seasons with Juventud Laguna. In 2018, 15-year-old Pedri joined the UD Las Palmas academy and subsequently made his professional debut the next season at age 16 during a 1–0 home loss to Huesca. A month later, he became the club’s youngest-ever goalscorer at just 16 years, 9 months, and 23 days old.
Club career
Pedri established himself as a regular starter for Las Palmas in the Segunda División in the 2019–20 season. His performances caught the eye of FC Barcelona, who agreed to buy him for an initial €5 million fee in September 2019. He stayed with Las Palmas on loan for the rest of that season before moving to Catalonia in the summer of 2020.
FC Barcelona
Pedri joined Barcelona’s first team in the summer of 2020 under manager Ronald Koeman. In his first season at the club, Pedri made 52 appearances for Barça, more than any other player. His tireless debut season ended with a Copa del Rey trophy at age 18. This breakthrough year earned him both the 2021 Golden Boy and the Kopa Trophy, along with a 24th-place finish in the Ballon d’Or voting.
Injuries disrupted his second year, starting with a left thigh issue after a Champions League match. However, Pedri bounced back to enjoy a magnificent 2024–25 season under Hansi Flick. International career
Pedri represented Spain at the under-17 level and won the UEFA European under-17 Championship in 2019. He quickly progressed to the senior national team, making his debut in March 2021. Just months later, he was named to Spain’s UEFA Euro 2020 squad, where he became the youngest player to ever feature in the tournament. His incredible performances earned him the Young Player of the Tournament award and a spot in the Team of the Tournament. He immediately followed that up by winning an Olympic silver medal with the under-23 team in Tokyo, narrowly losing 2–1 to Brazil in extra time during the final.
By 2022, Pedri was a locked-in starter at the FIFA World Cup in Qatar, playing all four matches before Morocco eliminated Spain on penalties in the round of 16. The midfielder bounced back by helping Spain capture the 2023 UEFA Nations League title. He was also a crucial part of Spain’s Euro 2024 championship run, though his tournament cut short after an early collision with Toni Kroos in the quarter-final victory over Germany. He remained a mainstay for his country throughout the 2026 World Cup qualifying cycle.
In November 2025, Pedri was named to the 2025 FIFPRO Men’s World 11. Subsequently, he was named in Spain’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the third major tournament of his senior international career after Euro 2020 and Euro 2024.

Pedri’s father was a former local goalkeeper in Spain.
