What religion is Jarell Quansah?
Jarell Quansah is an English professional footballer who has not publicly shared or discussed his religious beliefs, so his specific religion is officially unknown.
Jarell Quansah plays as a centre-back for Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen and the England national team. He is a product of Liverpool’s academy since childhood before breaking into the club’s first team in 2023. Quansah won the Premier League and EFL Cup with Liverpool before moving to Bayer Leverkusen in 2025. He has also represented England at various youth and senior levels, most notably winning the 2022 UEFA European Under-19 Championship and the 2025 UEFA European Under-21 Championship, and playing at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Early life and youth career
Jarell Amorin Quansah was born on January 29, 2003, in Warrington, England, to parents Sam and Michelle Quansah. He was raised alongside his brother Keenan and sister Aliyah.
Quansah advanced through every age tier of the Liverpool youth system. He eventually captained the club’s under-18 side, leading the team in the 2021 FA Youth Cup final against Aston Villa. He subsequently captained the under-19 squad in the UEFA Youth League and helped the under-23 reserve side secure the Lancashire Senior Cup. Quansah signed his first professional contract with Liverpool on 4 February 2021.
Liverpool
Jarell Quansah earned his first spot on Liverpool’s first-team bench in December 2021 for matches against Tottenham Hotspur. In January 2023, he joined Bristol Rovers on loan for the rest of the season. He started 15 games in League One to get valuable first-team experience. He made his senior competitive debut for Liverpool on 27 August 2023, coming on as a second-half substitute for Joël Matip in a dramatic 2–1 win against Newcastle United, where Liverpool played with 10 men after Virgil van Dijk got a red card.
With Matip later out with a bad injury, manager Jürgen Klopp chose to trust Quansah instead of signing a new defender. He subsequently partnered both Matip and Ibrahima Konaté throughout his breakout 2023–24 season, making 33 appearances across all competitions and scoring his first senior professional goal in a UEFA Europa League fixture against Union Saint-Gilloise that December. He also featured as a substitute during Liverpool’s successful EFL Cup final victory over Chelsea to secure his first senior honor. He signed a new long-term contract extension with the club in October 2024.
Quansah continued to play regularly during the 2024–25 season under new manager Arne Slot. He played 25 games to help Liverpool lift the Premier League title. In total, he recorded 3 goals in 58 senior appearances for Liverpool.
Bayer Leverkusen
On July 2, 2025, Quansah transferred to Bayer 04 Leverkusen for a fee of approximately €35 million, signing a contract until 2030 and donning the number 4 shirt for the club. As part of the agreement, Liverpool kept a €60 million buy-back clause that becomes active in the summer of 2027.
Quansah quickly won a regular starting spot during his first 2025–26 season in Germany. He made 28 Bundesliga appearances and recorded 4 goals over the course of the domestic season, while also featuring regularly for the club in the UEFA Champions League.
England national team
Quansah represented England at youth international tiers from the under-16 to the under-21 levels. He helped the under-19 team win the European Championship in 2022. He was selected for England’s preliminary training squad ahead of UEFA Euro 2024 but was omitted from the final tournament roster. In June 2025, he featured for the under-21 team during their successful UEFA European Under-21 Championship campaign. After sitting on the bench for several senior games, he made his official senior debut on November 16, 2025, in a World Cup qualifier away against Albania. This milestone made him only the third player born in Warrington to play for England.
Quansah was subsequently included in manager Thomas Tuchel’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup finals, where he was utilized as defensive cover at right-back. After missing a round of 32 victory over the DR Congo due to a sprained ankle, he returned to the starting lineup for the round of 16 match against Mexico in Mexico City.
The match included a major setback when the referee sent him off in the 54th minute following a VAR review. The red card came after a high tackle on Mexico defender Jesús Gallardo, leaving England a man down for the final 36 minutes of the game. Despite the disadvantage, England held on to win 3–2. The red card carried an automatic two-match ban, ruling him out of England’s quarter-final against Norway.
Personal life
Jarell Quansah has Ghanaian roots through his family. Because of his parents and grandparents, he held unique international options early in his career. He was officially eligible to play for four different countries, including England, Scotland, Ghana, and Barbados. He eventually made his final choice by committing completely to the England national team pathway.
