What religion is Víctor Muñoz?
Víctor Muñoz is a Spanish professional footballer whose religious belief is not publicly known. While some celebrity profile websites speculate or generalize information, listing him broadly as Christian due to his background in Spain, Muñoz himself has not publicly spoken about his faith.
Víctor Muñoz plays as a left winger or forward for Premier League club Liverpool. He also plays for the Spanish national team and previously played for Osasuna and Real Madrid. Among his many career achievements, Muñoz won the 2026 FIFA World Cup with Spain and became the first active player in Osasuna’s history to be named to a Spanish World Cup squad.
Early life
Víctor Muñoz Villanueva was born on July 13, 2003, in Barcelona, Spain. He began his youth career at CE Sant Gabriel in Barcelona before joining FC Barcelona’s La Masia academy. Barcelona released him in 2017 when he was 14 years old due to heavy competition for places. He then moved to the youth academy of CF Damm to continue his training.
In June 2021, Real Madrid signed him for their youth system. He progressed through the club’s academy, making his debut for farm team RSC Internacional in 2022. Soon after, he earned a promotion to Real Madrid Castilla, the club’s reserve team playing in the third division.
Club career
Muñoz became a key player for manager Raúl González’s Castilla side over two seasons. He scored 10 goals in the third division, Primera Federación, during the 2024–25 season. He subsequently made his official debut for Real Madrid’s first team in May 2025 and went on to play two matches.
On 11 July 2025, Osasuna signed Muñoz from Real Madrid on a five-year contract. Real Madrid kept 50 percent of his player rights, and Osasuna set his release clause at €40 million. In his only season with the club, he played 34 matches across all competitions. He scored seven goals and made two assists in league play to help Osasuna stay in the top league. During a match against Rayo Vallecano, he even completed 12 dribbles, which was the most by any player in a single game that year. His excellent form also earned him two consecutive La Liga Under-23 Player of the Month awards for February and March 2026.
Liverpool
On 18 June 2026, Liverpool signed Muñoz after paying his €40 million release clause. This move helped them beat Newcastle United, who were trying to negotiate a lower price with Osasuna. The transfer fee was paid in two parts. Muñoz completed his medical test in the United States while playing for Spain at the World Cup. He signed a six-year contract that runs until June 30, 2030. This deal made him the first signing for new Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola, following an earlier agreement to sign Jeremy Jacquet.
International career
Muñoz received his first senior call-up for Spain in March 2026. That same month, he made his debut as a second-half substitute during a friendly match against Serbia and then scored the final goal in a 3–0 win in the 72nd minute, just ten minutes after entering the pitch. He then played 45 minutes in Spain’s next friendly game against Egypt.
Thanks to these great performances, national team manager Luis de la Fuente named Muñoz in Spain’s 26-player squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. However, an injury ultimately ruled him out of selection for Spain’s opening games, and he did not feature on the pitch during the tournament as the European champions went on to lift the World Cup trophy.
